¡Hola familias de Independence y Clarkston!
Summer is over and Spanish classes are finally back! I am so excited to start my sixth year of teaching elementary Spanish in Clarkston. This year I will be teaching every day at Independence Elementary and once or twice a week at Clarkston Elementary for 2 lessons.
I am the only Spanish teacher at Independence, and I will be teaching with 3 other teachers at Clarkston Elementary.
Ms.Thompson teaches Spanish at North Sashabaw and Clarkston Elementary, and Mrs. Fitterer teaches Spanish at Andersonville and Clarkston Elementary. Mrs. Curry teaches Spanish for one full day at Clarkston Elementary.
I might have your children again this year, or I might have them for the very first time. If your child is new to Clarkston, this newsletter will give you some information about myself and the elementary Spanish curriculum.
For anyone who does not know me, I want to introduce myself briefly. I have been teaching Spanish for over 25 years now. Before coming to Clarkston, I taught Spanish and French for 14 years in the Berkley School District. I was born in Michigan, but I moved to Mallorca, Spain as a baby, and attended an English-speaking International School there. I grew up fully bilingual in Spanish and English, thanks to having a Spanish mother and an American father. I came to Michigan when I was 19, and went to Michigan State University for my Bachelor’s degree and later on to Wayne State University for my Masters’ degree. I have two sons, one is an electrical engineer for Consumers Energy in Kalamazoo, and one is a physical therapist in West Bloomfield. I am now a grandmother to an adorable boy, who is almost 5 months old. I love teaching languages, and I myself speak 6 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Catalan (spoken in Barcelona, Spain) and some Russian :-)
Supplies needed for Spanish:
We would greatly appreciate any school supplies that you are able to contribute to the Spanish classroom: students will need a folder with pockets and a lined one subject spiral notebook (not a composition notebook please, as those are too small).
Schedule:
I am at Independence all day on A, B and D days, andC days in the mornings. I am at Clarkston Elementary only on C days after lunch. The best way to contact me is by email at: [email protected]
At Independence Elementary, I will be teaching Spanish to all grades.
At Clarkston Elementary, I will be teaching Spanish to: Mrs. Walter’s and Mrs. Gaines’ classes. I look forward to teaching them the joys of Spanish.
Elementary School Information
Students will have Spanish every 4 days and the lesson lasts for 45 minutes. They will do a variety of songs, writing, reading, games as well as technology.
My Spanish Blog: http://franciscaroth.weebly.com/
I have a Spanish blog with links to songs, videos, and websites for practice. There are tabs for each grade, as well as tabs for other activities, news and websites. I also post study guides, vocabulary lists, links to flashcards on quizlet.com.
My Quizlet account is https://quizlet.com/classes/froth66/
Students can log onto my quizlet account to practice vocabulary. Grades 2nd-5th grade will be creating their own accounts within the first month of school. Each grade has its own set of vocabulary words, with flashcards, quizzes and games they can play.
Here’s to a wonderful new year and ¡Olé to español! (Hurray for Spanish!)
¡Adiós!
