They then received their first vocabulary list and we went over the words, and a few grammar facts.

Students learned that Spanish is a phonetic language, and unlike
English, the vowels never change sound. They also learned that in Spanish there is a familiar way to speak to people, as well as a formal way. The formal way is used to speak to adults, people in positions of authority or to show respect. it is like the words "thou" sand "thee" that were used long ago in England.
