We then started unit 11.2, and looked at three new irregular -ir verbs: partir, sortir, and dormir.
partir = to leave sortir = to go out
je pars nous partons je sors nous sortons
tu pars vous partez tu sors vous sortez
il part ils partent il sort ils sortent
These two verbs use être for the passé composé
Je suis parti. = I left
Tu es sorti. = You went out.
dormir = to sleep
je dors nous dormons
tu dors vous dormez
il dort ils dorment
This verb uses avoir for the passé composé
J'ai dormi. = I slept.
There will be a verb quiz on Monday that is retakeable, using the present tense on all the new verbs we have learned this year: mettre, regular ir and re verbs, and today's new verbs. I am also going to quiz you on avoir, être, and aller, as some people are forgetting how to conjugate these. There will also be one next week on the passé composé, since there are still some people who have trouble forming it.
