We also learned various things about the French culture today, such as kissing cheeks versus shaking hands, and the use of "vous" to be formal and polite, and show respect.
In France, kissing someone that you know well on the cheek is a very common way to greet them. Girls kiss other girls on the cheek and boys. Boys will kiss girls on the cheek, but not other boys. Grownup also do this, using hand-shaking with people that they do not know.
The pronoun "tu" is only used among friends and family, and means "you". "Vous" is used to show respect when being introduced to someone older than you. "Vous" is alos used when addressing a crowd of peopl that you know, like a form of the southern "y'all"
On Friday we will be working on writing a letter in French. See the assignments page for more details. Tomorrow many students will not have French because of the MEAP.
